I recently made the rounds of a few Linux forums. One issue I keep seeing is that, when things go wrong with the desktop, people are at a bit of a loss as to where to find errors. Currently some higher level X11 logging can be found via journalctrl and other lower level logging can be found in xorg-session.log.

It would be useful if there was one central place to look for errors. Could sddm be setup to forward to the systemd-journal?

This can be achieved by an autostart script such as
Code: Select all
tail -f $HOME/.local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log | systemd-cat -t xorg-sess

But I wondered if it could/should be the responsibility of sddm?
