Hello,

Unicode does contain certain control characters and zero width characters. I think it would be useful to have an option to have such characters displayed. For example Unicode has the ZWNJ (200C), which can be used to prevent ligatures in specific places. Suppose we are writing text for an application with unicode support like XeTeX or whatever. Then we might want to use such characters. In this case it would be useful if Katepart actually displayed this character (or rather some substitute symbol) so we know it is there.

Or suppose you are copying some source code from an e-Mail or something. This might then contain invisible control characters at the ends of lines and such which creates issues. Again here it would help if Katepart made these things visible.

For example >>> t‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌h‌‌‌‌‌‌i‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌s <<< word is in fact made up of 100 character.

Best,
Valentin

This clearly does make sense

This clearly does make sense ...
There already is the common option to display "non printable characters" (typical linebreaks and tab symbols). I am actually surprised that the characters you mention are _not_ handled by that... (did you actually check?).
