In my opinion, there should be additional menu entries, which call selected default programs, like browser. User may have installed many browser and exposing default (setup in systemsettings5) entry in menu is good idea. Additionally, add change default menu entry (for right-click on default program's menu), so user can change the default program.

This makes thinks better (like GNOME, but not mess, because web browser will be item selected by user - not forced by developers).

And... On task list - instead placing Firefox, place web browser, etc.

Where are those entries different to what is already present?

Currently you have two alternatives:
* "open", which opens the default application registered for a given mime type
* "open in", which allows to select the application that should be used

As I understand it the option "open in default" is exactly what the first option above does.

As far as I understood, he wants default desktop files for, e.g. Browser which executes the application defined in `xdg-settings get default-web-browser` instead of using the browsers name to launch.
As I use different browsers for different purposes, I cannot see an avantage here.

"Programs menu" means the launcher ("start menu")?

If so I think that would be confusing in my eyes, since that would mean an additional entry for each default application. That doubles exactly what the original entry does. I doubt that really helps anyone and it certainly reduces clearness and overview.
Maybe you'd get along with on of these alternative suggestions:
  • An additional entry ("folder") in the launcher just for those "defaults"? In there you'd have "Web browser", "E-Mail client", "FIle manager", ...
  • Just place the defaults as icons on the panel. That gives you a one click shortcut to the application.
  • You could also use an additional shortcut menu for those defaults icons, such menus already exist as widgets.

It looks great. Maybe pack defaults programs just to favorites?
