I end up using Gnome Disks a lot for stuff like disk image restore, setting APM settings for my disks, viewing SMART data, etc. So far I'm not aware of an equivalent app in KDE. Was thinking of working on one because I want to polish up my Qt skills anyway but before I did that, I wanted to float it here and find out:

1. Does it already exist and I just don't know about it?
2. Should this functionality be instead merged with an existing app (in which case I'll talk to the maintainers and see if it's something they'd be interested in adding if I wrote the patch).
3. If it does need to be created should it be standalone like Gnome Disks, or should it be a KCM?

Let me know you're thoughts or if I'm crazy.

Nothing wrong with a KCM, or an addition to something else.

KInfoCenter already shows SMART status info

Partition Manager can backup and restore, as well as view SMART info. Not sure about APM, I don't see anything related to this, but my drives may not support this.

I've looked for APM settings before and couldn't find anything.

Since some of the functionality is already covered by what we have I almost wonder if it makes sense to add APM stuff into Powerdevil and the power KCM, and then it could even change that based on battery state like how TLP does.

I'd have to dig through Gnome Disks again to see if there's anything else that's useful, but honestly the APM stuff is the itch I want to scratch anyway.

Edit: although Disks applies the Drive Settings stuff at a system level that takes effect prior to logging in. So I'm almost thinking maybe an admin-type app that handles a lot of hdparm paramaters, and maybe add some basic stuff like APM levels to Powerdevil if those maintainers are interested.
