That is a languish like Visual Basic for linux.
Have very good support for GTK+ amd qt . It is very rapid programming. Gambas Almost Means BASIC Gambas is a free development environment based on a Basic interpreter with object extensions, a bit like Visual Basic™ (but it is NOT a clone !). Read the introduction for more information.

In my opinion, KDE developers already have enough work to intent to make a real environment for the desktop (KDE = K Destop Environment).
But, I think that your idea is not bad. But is for a new environment: "KSE" (K Server Environment). Windows Server systems are very easy to configure. This is the idea: Search developers to make a server interface using the KDE library. |

I can try to do that. But where do I start?

This would be great for Administrators.
Currently I use Webmin which is also great utility. But it is web based. Having similar tools on KDE System Settings would be great for server administration. |

I tried to make a LAMP configuration utility, but failed horribly at the time because I ran into the notification area of KDE not being updated yet and the old Qt way being discouraged, so instead of writing inferior code or waiting I simply gave up.
This should certainly not be part of the kde base distribution, but something like KDE server extensions could be great. One thing that impressed by Mac Os server is that you can enable lots of things with very little pain, like a jabber server. I think at the core there should be: - Network basics: Firewalls,DHCP, DNS - Server technologies: Apache, Mysql, PHP, ejabberd etc - Access control: Creating users, giving them access to certain resources like file shares or printers - Application set up for users: Controling browser settings on domain computers, installed applications etc - Remote administration: Utilities to log into users sessions like VNC to take control and find and fix problems The possibilities are endless and I am sure there are apps that will fit these descriptions sitting in KDE-apps, but maybe they should fall under an umbrella like koffice or kde edu does, in order to give it more lime light and attention. |

You can maybe try writing a webmin UI wrapper to do this. (then, you wouldn't need to reinvent the wheel by creating a new set of admin plugins)
Mind that not all GUI/X11/... vulnerabilities need a running X. (if you forward via ssh -X, the app will be as vulnerable as if it was ran under X11 on the server - the only benefit is that X11 bugs will not affect the server) |
