typing "foo/bar/some/new/dir" could create a path instead of creating a useless directory with a name "foo/bar/some/new/dir". this way one can create a path very fast without the need of having to create a directory one by one.
what do you think?

hmm you shouldn't name something like that because the slash is already used to access paths...

as was discussed on irc '/' is illigal in unix' filesystem directory names anyway and is only possible because of a utf8 hack or somesuch.

What happens if you accidentally type in the wrong file name to an existing folder? It should at least ask you if you want to make the folder before making it.

why should you be asked to create a folder which already exists? :-S unless i misunderstood you.

Let's say I have a folder such as: /home/me/pictures/family/vacation/ But I type in /home/me/pitcures/family/vacation/ (notice the third level is misspelled) With this idea you would end up with that folder being created instead of an error, even though it is a useless folder created by a typo. So I am suggesting that if it detects that the folder you typed in doesn't exist, it should ask you before it makes the folder.

A dialog with text input (so you could still correct any mistakes) for confirmation is necessary.
But might be as a some sort drop down, or virtual folder to script, that creates directories because if it would be a focus steeling, kdesu like, popup input, well, it would be werrrrry annoying, since sometimes you misspell and dont want to create anything. If because of poup, you would be forsed to move mouse, well its bad.... |

i think an autocomplete functionality would prevent this sort of mistakes -- or at least keep it low, as you will notice that there's no autocompletion for "pitcures". i for one would be annoyed by having to answer every time i create a folder. however, if this dialog is optional, it'd be okay with me.
