"Recently Used" tab in KDE Menu is not very useful now:

- You can not use it when opening a file from any application (file open dialog)
- Doesn't show many files
- It's placed where you look for applications (KDE Menu), not where you look for files (Dolphin)
- It is not integrated into Nepomuk?

Those are the reasons I see to remove recently used documents from the KDE Menu into Places, leaving only recently used applications. This should be integrated into Nepomuk "nepomuksearch:/used:today", "nepomuksearch:/used:yesterday", etc. If this can't be done now an special URI could be created "recentlyused:/" for transition.

Most KDE apps already have an "open recent" entry. This shows only those files opened recently by that very app. If I understand correctly, what you propose would show files opened recently independent from the app you are using. I.e. if I open KWrite, I see pictures in that list as well. How is that useful?

As for the integration of standard Nepomuk searches in Dolphin, this is definitely a good idea. And it can easily be achieved even now: Just add an entry linking to "nepomuksearch:/Today's Files" (and other nepomuk searches you would like to access) in Dolphin or any open dialog and name it accordingly.

If I've used Kwrite to open a text file, and now want to use Kate, or Gwenview to work on an image and now want to use Kolourpaint, then this feature would be useful.

But wouldn't a KIO slave be a better idea that would accomplish the same thing?

Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.
