One thing I would love to see in Kopete would be an ability to link to protocols supported by libpurple (like facebook chat, since their Jabber support seems to be all vapour) and an ability to connect to MSN via port 80 like Pidgin does (this is the only reason I have to use pidgin ... luckily there is the gtk-qt binding which at least makes it a bit less ugly but it still does not come close to the beauty of kopete).
I am happy about the new skype-binding which was a very good addition to Kopete. Kudos for that. |

The IRC-Plugin.
I think this development should be reactivated. |

Additionally, depending on the progress on Project Decibel, support for additional or alternative protocol implementations might come through that angle.

Sorry for being ignorant, but would it then be easy to import protocols for libpurple by binding them to Decibel? What are the plans on putting Kopete on top of Decibel? I did some googling and saw something about Kcall being on top of it at the moment. Especially the port 80 connection to MSN would make a lot of people happy, I think. I have seen forum posts about this dating back to 2004. Also facebook connectivity is a widely asked feature. |

Maybe Decibel could be integrated into libkopete-protocols. But I think it would be easier (and more exciting for developers) to implement a few protocols like IRC and writing a few configuration-dialogs than integrating libpurple.

This exists already, a Telepathy connection manager called Haze: http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Telepathy
No idea, probably a long term project, probably a Google Summer of Code project this year. Cheers, _

Is there any reason why Kopete's backend doesn't merge with libpurple?

Kopete is dead, KDE Telepathy has loads of protocols including (but not limited to) everything in libpurple.
