More control over the font colour of widgets

I've whined about it here before, but what I would really like is more control over font colours in Plasma themes. Currently Plasma themes are limited to one overall text colour, so if the text colour is white for the panel, it will be on the desktop area.
There is a unconfirmed bug report which might be related to this, so I'm not sure if this counts as a new idea. If this gets implemented it will make theming more flexible.
