I don't know if I'm especially clumsy, but in several occasions I have deleted files I didnt want do delete because of the way selection markers (the green "+" sign in top left corner of dolphin file icons) function.
If you are in Dolphin and you are looking at some directory with a lot of files, and you right click one to see its properties or whatever, or you just click on its "+" accidentally, and then you scroll so that file disappears from your view, is very easy to forget that file remains selected; then when you select a new file or folder vía "+" sign you will have two icons selected and if you press "Del" thinking you are just deleting one both files will be erased. If they are just two the dialog box will advise you and you will see something strange, but imagine you have selected 58 to delete, will you read the whole list of files to be deleted reported by said dialog box? I don't think so, at least I don't usually do it and hence I delete some files I didn't want to. I think this issue is somehow important since it implies a rather likely risk of data loss, but it could be easily avoidable if selection markers were exclusive unless you press ctrl, this is, if you click a selection marker the formerly select icon gets deselected, unless you press "Control", as I've just said. I don't mean to remove completely the current selecion marker feature of selecting multiple files just clicking, it is rather handy if you are careful, but at least I think it would be nice to have an option to configure its behavior. Theres an option to enable or disable it, adding another one to make it exclusive wouldn't bee too difficult, I think. Regards. |

Agreed, I also have had this thought and this particular experience a few times.

In Dolphin, you can check the option to "Ask for confirmation when ... moving files to trash." This will pop up a list of files to be deleted.

Well, that isn't so practicall, since you can always restore from trash; but I have that option active when I "shift+del", yes, but, as mentioned in my first post, who checks that list of files one by one when you are deleting severl dozens or even hundreds of files? Well, I guess the anser must be "everybody but me and some few more" since this idea has just gotten a negative vote, hehe. |

Since my proposal has only gotten a negative vote It seems you and me are the only Dolphin users who have had this problem, :s |

I just turn the markers off in the Dolphin Settings. I personally think the selection marker and single-click are silly defaults, but eh, whatever.
