I think the activities idea, allowing people to have multiple collections of widgets that can be used as a group and switched to depending on what you are doing. However, I do not think it should be limited just to the desktop containment. I think it would be great if you were able to set activities for your panels as well. This would essentially allow you do have multiple different panels in the same place, and you could change them at will. So for instance if you were only working with a single text document you could switch to a panel with a small taskbar and lots of other useful applets, while if you are doing image editing work involving dozens of windows you could switch to a panel that has a much larger taskbar and little else.
I know there is already talk of having per-activity panels, but my idea would allow you to change your panel and desktop activities independently.

I think this is not the real concept of a ZUI....
but maybe we could implement different types of panels? Such as "global" and restricted panels... that would give the user the option to break with concept or not too.... even to have different panels along each other.... |
