This idea bundles together global menu and application menu.
I would really like to see a really powerful global menu that would have in it an application starter option. So I came up with idea that this menu would be similarly designed like the palaces menu in Dolphin. Jut like TheBlackCat envisioned it in his extensive mock-up: places menu If you look at this mock up you'll see that at the end of places there is another arrow that when clicked would show subfolders of this folder. The same would be applied to this menu. So when you would like to start an app; let's say Konqueror you would do this: menu>apps>internet>konqueror And once konqueror would load this menu would be changed in konqueror menu. Just like this (it's XBar) just that before global menu you would have an option Globmen or something like that that would colaps the Konqueror menu and present the applications menu again. It would be a good solution for netbooks where every inch of space is useful. The whole application launcher in panel. I just think this would really be cool!

And how exactly would I "do this"? I don't understand how you would start an application with this application menu.

I used the false term. I meant applications launcher (that's the what the Kick-off widget says, right?). So instead of Kick-off, Lancelot, or Raptor you would have an applications launcher that would be on plasma panel instead of opening a menu like a normal menu. Well it would still open a menu. Just like Dolphin does if you click on arrow (> ). Just like this: I'm astounded how little sense I'm making today. I hope that clears thing up. I think this would really be a "killer" app. If it makes sense.

I suspected something like this, but wouldn't it be quite troublesome to navigate? Sure, you could should subcategories in the menu, but then you would have something like the traditional menu.
If I understood you correctly, you would need a button to switch between "menu bar" and "application launcher". If so, I don't quite see the benefit - is the few saved pixels really worth the added complexity?

I see your point. But I personally don't find it that complex. Well I don't really know. I wish I would have development knowledge so I would develop this app and see how it behaves and how useful it really is. I personally really like this idea. More or less what I wish is a global menu that would be an applications launcher. It sounded way cooler when I was making it up. Now I'm starting to see it's deficiencies.
