Hi!

My idea is to reintroduce a table-style playlist much like the one in amarok 1.4. While it maybe does not look as good as the current playlist in amarok 2 it has several advantages:
  • Large playlists are much more clearly represented (large in that context means ~ more than 100 tracks). Especially if it does not consist of whole albums but of single tracks.
  • It was pretty easy to select an arbitrary subset of the collection and edit the tracks' tags.
  • It is easier to display more information about the tracks or even make the columns customizable (as it was in amarok 1.4).

Sure there are also some drawbacks:
  • A table takes more space than the current playlist, so the three columns would have to be rearranged. Ideas on that point are very welcome.
  • According to personal inclination a table does not look as pretty.

I'm pretty sure that there are valid use-cases for both playlist-styles so I'm proposing to make it possible to switch between them as easily and fast as possible.

The table can show it's full strength when it comes to collection management. So one of the main questions in this regard is wheter we want amarok to be a collection manager and a player at once or not.

Thanks for your consideration.

I'm glad to hear that. Let's hope the release plan for amarok 2.1 holds.
Thanks for the pointer.
