A long awaited feature (20 June 2003 at least; bugs 60120 and 78629) is that there is no way to
connect to exchange server using MAPI native exchange protocol.........

Many company are running exchange as there mail server and most of them for security reasons are disabling webdav or imap or pop, and thus you're stuck with running outlook in a VM or dual boot environment.

Since MAPI protocol for exchange 2007 is fully documented now, I think that would be a great enhancement to have native exchange support in kdepim
