The idea is to integrate gethotnewstuff with KPackageKit. This should be optional so non-privileged users can still install stuff. Maybe it is needed to 'tag' packages in PackageKit or something similar, but it would allow extremely nice integration. A framework like this could also be used to install plugins for konqueror (flash, java).

Doing this would make it possible to install e.g. plasmoid binaries for you distribution and then get automatic updates. It would also encourage distributors to package more plasmoids, themes, marble maps.

For this to work on other platforms there would need to be written windows and mac backends for packagekit, but that is another story. (They would still have the possibility to get non-binary stuff)
