I really don't like the throbber (little blue K in the top right) in Konqueror. It makes the Menu bar taller compared to other KDE applications and wastes space.
Compare the height of the ">>"s for each app's toolbar. Konqueror's toolbar is pushed down several pixels. This is fixed if you just use Ctrl+M to hide the menu bar: But, then, that's an extra step if I want to use the menu, and now there is no easy indicator I can glance at to see if a page is still loading. Can the throbber be moved to the toolbar as a plugin like Google Search box is? That opens the doors for customization, like badging the throbber with the favicon of the current website, or theming it with the current system colour scheme. It could even turn red on SSL problems. As they are now, throbbers are pretty useless, except as a dual-state progress indicator. It's like the only reason Konqueror has one is because every other browser has one, and the way it's implemented now actually makes Konqueror worse. Let's make the throbber relevant again!

Bespin Widget style and window decoration has a hack to get rid of throbber.
But if it has to be there I agree that it could be less space consuming.

I agree. I like the KDE 3-style throbber (in the toolbar) a lot more.

I fully agree. There are some themes which are making it smaller like Skulpture of QtCurve but as I have understood there needs to be some special hack inside. KDE3 throbler is much much better. Or the other option would be to add it to status bar but KDE3 solution is probably the best.

There was a patch for moving the throbber to the toolbar recently submitted, although it has not been approved.

Another note about the current throbber is that it only shows the loading status of the current page, but if you have several pages loading, you have no indication of when each finishes loading. It would be nice if the favicon would throb or show a loading animation until they finish.
