Hi!
What i am really longing for on the desktop, is an option for signing into kde.mydomain.com from the start menu. Making it possible having all my content and settings synchronized with my own KDE on-line desktop. This would make it easy doing new installs, having identically set-up on my PC, laptop, netbook and working when I don't have access to my computer! eyeOS (GPL) has done this partially and I'm using this today (Check out my domain http://os.ttl4u.com). I am certain that you guys can do a much better job at this!!! I use HostMonster.com an pay $3.95 a month and get unlimited storage and bandwidth EyeOS was very simple to install and it was also easy to install the Debian eyeOS sync software, but the current alpha release of the eyOS Sync does not work as it should. EyeOS has also made it possible to make an account at their site! You can actually host eyeOS and make money! I would like to see KDE becoming SaaS (Software as a Service)! Knut -Norway

Actually every single Unix software is from beginning a SAAS compatible and "Cloud" compatible. SAAS and Cloud are both just pure marketing terms to sell a old technology as a new.
Question is about networking, that every computer can connect to any network as long as there is a access (physical). In Unix systems many functions actually works trough loopback or localhost networking. There is no matter where your files and programs actually exist, as they can be on home server, corporation server, internet hosting service or on your friend server. Question is just how many actually wants to configure system as it would work by that way? 60's technology what new people does not usually understand what possibilities they offer and how little today they are actually used as some new people wants to mistake them by purpose to everything else so they can control what people buy. |

Wouldn't this be possible by simply using X over the internet?
This is a standard feature of X. To make it even easier there's a project called X2go: http://www.x2go.org
It's time to prod some serious buttock!

Yes, X11 protocol supports such feature as almost everything in Unix systems is possible get working over networking. KDE SC is possible to get work even with a old Pentium -Class computer if it just have enough processing speed to fill the screen and VRAM for colors. All actuall processing is done in the server end like applications, compositing and so on. ThinClients.... |

@Fri13: I know that's possible. We're running a dozen LTSP clients in Cyberpipe already.
I'm wondering whether nordvicks' idea differs from that or not.
