[KDE] Revenue from Google Search

Fri Mar 27, 2009 4:23 pm
When you use that little search box on firefox if you look at the end of the URL it has "&client=firefox-a" and this has led firefox to over $53million income.
I think this could be done with KDE and konqueror.
Once KDE Implementes something like this for preview-search-in-konqueror-t-39148.html for Google in Konqueror and KDE Kickoff or Lancelot main menu or krunner, it would be great option for KDE Community to get revenue from that search like that of Firefox, which could directly help in the whole KDE development process.

Hope this get's implemented.

Yeah, tirely !

Maybe this can be done with other search engine also ?
I think Mandriva is already partner with Ask.com !
And maybe Exalead would like this kind of agreement also ?

I'm against this. Just look at Mozilla. Yeah, they have a pile of money now, but they are also Google's puppet. The Mozilla Corporation halted the Thunderbird development, because Google wants that all e-mail is done through GMail's web interface with ads. There's still some TB development going on, but MozCorp is not involved anymore.

Two years after the release of TB 2.0 a final release ob TB 3.0 is nowhere near. Actual new TB features are rare. TB 3.0 is mostly a port to Gecko 1.9.

Becoming a corporate **** just results in stagnation.

Humm... You guys could of course buy beer for every penny. This will not make you dependent on the money (but maybe on beer). Sure money is corrupting, but it sure opens possibilites, and I think there is a way to use it without getting dependent, if that is the goal.

In short, I like it, got my vote. (I like beer too)

Google does not tell Mozilla what to do. The reason Thunderbird is stagnant is because there is a lack of developer interest, that's all.

Besides, if Google wanted to make people use the GMail interface, they would just go the way of Yahoo or Microsoft and not let you access mail through POP/IMAP.
