[Konsole] Ubiquity for KDE

Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:33 am
hi, i would like to see a ubiquity firefox style feature for kde, so yours can quickly do certain task more quickly and effectively. an example of this is users can type in convert to mp3 and the program would automatically convert the file to mp3. this would be very good for users who use terminal etc, the person does not need to know the command but just the natural language.

if this feature was added it would even beat osx based on productivity. :-):-):-)

That sounds like what KRunner already is set up to do, although admittedly it's not quite like your example.

thats the beauty of this type of application it can be applied to virtual any kde application. Great minds must think alike because the first app i was thing about was to integrate it with krunner and then konsole. :lightbulb::lightbulb:

I guess it could be done with Nepomuk probably. You would "tag" tasks and call them with a tag in KRunner or something.

And it can already be done in konsole.
Just add aliases to your bashrc of what you want to do.
Example: Some of my aliases:
Code: Select all
alias reboot='sudo shutdown -r now'
alias stop='sudo shutdown -h now'
alias CLI='sudo /etc/rc.d/kdm stop'
alias resetplasma='kquitapp plasma'

This would be great if we have such predefined aliases. This would really be interesting to give commands in natural language.

For those of us not in the know, can you please write a brief summary of what Ubiquity is?

Ubiquity for KDE

My idea of the implementation is a runner that can understand (process) language like :
- burn thing.iso
- play song track
- search thing -> open google
- where is location -> open marble or google maps
And so on
The play is already implemented by the control amarok runner, but some other runners like it should be implemented too
