Folder password locking would be a nice feature. If someone would like to, for example, send an email with attachment from that folder, browser inside KMail would ask for a passoword for the folder. Additional encryption of the folder would be great.

This idea cannot be implemented in the way the author suggests, at least not by KDE, since it just uses the Underlying file system. The only way this would be possible with a special KIO slave that would provide access to a file encrypted by a password. However this method would prove complex and would be highly prone to data loss.

Not too sure, but didn't Kgpg do this you suggest? |

KGpg can encrypt an individual file, but not a folder. The user would need to use Ark beforehand.

Yes, I know about KGpg ability to encrypt files and it is not what I mean. So encryption is not likely to be implemented, is the case of password locking the same? |

I don't see how you could effectively password lock a file/folder without crypto. It would have to be just KDE asking for a password, but the file/folder would still be accessible to other file managers or through a shell. |

Ah, I see. Well, in that case I thing simh's suggestion is a good one. My vote. |

Then why not make it easy to encrypt a folder with crypto from within the file manager?
