Would be nice to tagging one mail with multiple tags, and if you have Gmail account could import the respective tags.
I don't know if the IMAP protocol can use it to apply new tags in messages. I don't use KMail because don't have this feature! For the rest it's awesome! Thanks for your work! Marçal. |

The way Kmail handles Gmail accounts via disconnected IMAP is entirely broken. I am aware of the fact that it is actually Gmail who does not respect the standard, but given that huge amount of users who have migrated to Gmail, it is now a de facto standard. I thus wish that Kmail could acknowledge this and offer a way to better interact with Gmail. In fact, this should have hight priority.

Unfortunately I have to disagree here. GMail is not the defacto standard, not by far. There are many thousands of corporate and ISP mail servers which KDE users should not be disadvantaged with using because of a non-standards compliant free email provider. Google should correct their implementation and follow the standard ( which even Microsoft follows )
mutlu: Can you explain how it is "entirely broken"? It works fine for me with my standards compliant Cyrus IMAP server.

I use KMail for two IMAP accounts (not Gmail) and works perfect.
Nevertheless would be a great feature to implement "GMail-IMAP" protocol, of course is not standard, but the use of multiple tags in one mail is the way to go (I think). Also would be great to multiple tag one local mail into a POP account, like GMail. Thanks! |

I have been using Gmail's IMAP both connected and disconnected and it works fine for me under kmail. The solution to the mapping between tags and gmail folders seems to me to be the ability to associate folders to tags. That is, when I tag an e-mail, it should be copied to the associated folder. To make things simple, a druid that would generate the tags corresponding to the existing Gmail folders should exist. This doesn't avoid you having as many folders as tags, though, if this was the goal.

I am sorry if I did not express myself clearly. Kmail surely does everything right with regard to disconnected IMAP proper. And I do not wish for any change in default disconnected IMAP behavior. What I would like to see, however, is an option to choose a "Gmail-like disconnected IMAP behavior." With this function enabled, Kmail should mirror the way Gmail handles tags. Right now, Kmail will subscribe to all tags/folders in Gmail. This will result in all emails being downloaded into "All Mail" and, additionally, once for each associated tag into the respective folder. I know that I can somewhat work around this (but I am also quite sure that most users don't) by unsubscribing the "All Mail" folder, but even then, emails will be downloaded multiple times if they are tagged with several tags. I consider this "broken." Admittedly, it is broken on Gmail's side, but, as I intended to express, given the amount of Gmail users and the unobviousness of the partial "solution" to making Kmail work with Gmail, I would like to see an option to make disconnected IMAP behave "Gmail-like." |
