It would be great if KDE detected when locate is present and presented a checkbox "use 'locate' for searching for files". It would be a GUI for locate, integrated with KDE. Those who use locate a lot would be happier to do it on GUI instead of konsole, since the search can be enhanced and easied, such as opening the folder for one of the files, or opening it. It could also warn the user if the database is outdated: "warning: the locate database is 8 days old". Or even present more information stating what the 'locate' package is and how could it be updated regularly using cron, for instance, so that end users could also benefit from it. I know about Nepomuk, but I think the goals are different.
