It is pretty hard to get something like system settings to fit everyones' tastes. So the question occurred to me: why are we trying? Why shouldn't the users be able to decide how they want to use system settings? I think users should be able to fully reorganize system settings in any way they want. They should be able to add, rename, and remove tabs (they should only be removable when empty). They should be able to set what group or groups (like Look and Feel) each section (like Desktop) belongs in. They should be able to move sections between tabs, and the group for that section should be automatically created in the tab. They should be able to duplicate sections, make new sections, and remove empty sections. They should be able to set which section each module (like Splash Screen or Emoticons) belongs in which section, and if combined with my put some modules in multiple places idea should be able to set them to multiple sections. There must always be at least one instance of every module, every section must have at least one group, you cannot remove a section that still has non-duplicate modules, and you cannot remove a tab with non-duplicate sections. That way you can never "lose" a module. If the setup is changed, users should be have an option to reset it to default. This does not have to be something commonly exposed to ordinary users, it would probably show up as various right-click menus, but it would be very useful for power users who want to customize everything.

System Settings is an application you use quite rarely. And after using it for a while you should be able to find most stuff pretty easily.

I don't like the added complexity, so -1 from me.

Some people already have trouble with all the choice in KDE. Making it even harder to find ways to change things (I.E. by changing the way you find ways to change things) isn't really what I consider innovative...

I'm going to vote this up.

I've always considered the way items are organized in the control center to be pretty stupid, but with System Settings it just gets a lot more painful since I don't just search by expanding items in the sidebar but instead I have to look at the icons, double click them then find that it's not what I'm looking for and click the back button.

The greatest annoyance is the window effects.

Whenever I try to look for them, I start in Appearance. In Appearance I click Windows but find that it's not what I'm looking for so I go back. I then try looking in Window Behavior, which is also not right. Then I remember, "Oh, yeah, it's in Desktop." But what are the window effects doing in Desktop? Not to mention Screen Saver (which should be in Appearance) and Launch Feedback which would better fit with the mouse and cursor themes.

Sorry, I am aganist this idea. If a user reorganises System Settings, they are reducing the ability of the KDE Community Forums to help KDE users, making it harder for a user to get help.

2 things: If the user reorganizes system settings, they should know where they put stuff. It is not like it is moving around randomly. Second, if the user doesn't remember, they can always click the "restore default button" to put things back where they were.

This isn't something users are going to be forced to use. If you want to, you can, if you don't, then don't.

I use systemsettings quite a bit, so being able to put the modules where I want them would be great. This feature shouldn't be too easy to enable as it could confuse newbies pretty easily but I'm voting for it.
