I have been looking for a serial terminal (like windows hyperterm, teraterm or minicom) but have found none that I find any good. There did exist Komport but is no longer maintained.
All the big things you need for a serial terminal program are already in konsole:- logging, tabs, window control,vt100 emulation etc.

All that needs to be added to konsole would be serial buad rate etc and pipe the konsole session to a serial device instead of bash process. these could be set as part of the profile configuration so as to be out of the way till a serial profile is setup.

You can already tell konsole which commands to execute on startup for a set profile. By default it's your shell, but you could tell it to start the Linux program "screen" which would do exactly what you want.

I understand that when you open a konsole port it connects a virtual serial device /dev/pts/1 for example. I would think that all you would have to do is set up a console terminal to /dev/ttys0 to connect that terminal to the PC COMs port.

But I can not find any info on how to do this. It seams every body who uses their linux machine to connect to a server or router or any other type of serial managment port doesn't think it's worth telling anybody how to do it. It doesn't help that any search you do on the subject is going to return a lot of unwanted results. The virtual tty is involved in any terminal session and so comes up a lot. There is also a lot of stuff out there on setting up the serial port as a Linux console. But I want to do the reverse and connect my Linux serial port to another machines console.

I know there will somewhere be a simple set of commands to do this but I can't find it and so I assume others will have difficulty finding it as well. Built in konsole function would make this simple for anybody looking to have a teraterm/minicom/hyperterm like serial terminal program.

PS I read through the screen command and could not figure out how to use it to do this. I also see tty and stty command mention serial ports a few times but again it does not say anything about how to connect to PCs COMs port.

If someone knows the command to do this please let me know?

In any case the command is obviously not that easy and so functionality built into Konsole would be useful. Sooner or later a anybody who works in IT will need to connect to a router or some other machines serial console.

UPDATE:-

I found that minicom is not so hard once it is installed correctly. So I'd like to change this idea to be just a request for some nice integration of minicom controls into Konsole.
