No need to run desktop effects when your screen saver is going.

Desktop effects are good to have if you have plasmoids on top of the screensaver, on my system it appears that the Plasma "desktop" (don't know what to call it) sits on top of the screensaver, so it covers it up when I don't have desktop effects enabled.
Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.

Why I say this is because I wrote a screensaver called KOceansaver ( http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KO ... tent=95863 ) and when desktop effects are suspend it runs fine but when enabled it is not as smooth especially with older hardware. I guess I could add code to suspend desktop effects but if it affects plasma then it would be better if kscreensaver suspend desktop effects. It could suspend if plasmoids in screensaver are not enabled and leave desktop effects unchanged if plasmoids in screensaver are enabled.

when you have a screensaver compositing should be suspended automagically as we unredirect fullscreen windows. But there are distributions which disabled this setting (as it causes problems in certain situations).
