After much complaining, ambivalance, trial, and error, I think I've finally migrated to KDE4.2.
One of the biggest obstacles for me in migrating to KDE4 was the fact that for me, KDE4 required a huge amount of setup time. One big problem has been finding a theme I can live with. Every theme has a number of variables, and if one of them doesn''t work with my desktop, the whole theme becomes unusable. An easy example is the notes widget. I tend to look for fairly opaque themes because I want to use a variety of abstract wallpapers, and there are some beautiful themes that would be just perfect for me, with nice dark folderview plasmoids, able to stand up to any wallpaper and still be readable... but the notes widget is completely transparent. This makes the whole theme unusable with my intended background. I'd like to have the option of choosing a generic opaque notes plasmoid. This would open up a lot of themes that I would love to use, but can't right now. In practical terms, I find that the notes plasmoid, in all it's practical simplicity makes up for a lot that I have to give up to migrate to KDE 4.2 To carry the idea further, I'd love to see some supplementary choices for the analog clock. This is also an essential widget for me. It's the only round widget, so it adds an element of variety that I find visually appealling. I need that analog clock. It seems that a few themes don't even have one, and others have clocks that are undeniably cool, but kind of eccentric and others don't seem to have any relationship to the theme, i.e. maybe everything else is dark, and the clock is pure white. I think the vision of the author ought to be honored as the default, but life would be a lot easier for me if I could just stick another clock there, something basic and versatile. For me, these two plasmoids-- the notes and the analog clock-- have been the most problematic, and between them have forced me to abandon perhaps a dozen themes that I otherwise found appealing. Ideally, I'd also like to see just one alternative pager plasmoid, with no "glare" . I like my pager square and flat.

It's hard to find, but under system-settings->advance-> desktop theme details you can actually specify look for every major plasmoid.

So did you try it?
Is that what you want? Just to know if it's already implemented or not...
