I would like to have a GUI in the settings menu that allows you to activate the Multi Pointer X functionality so that 2 USB mice can be plugged in to control 2 separate cursors or so that multi touch can be set-up by a layperson.

It is usually the distribution that provide the tools that configure this, since it usually requires knowledge of distribution internals ( configuration file locations and software versions ) and administrative access. However KDE could offer configuration options that are specific to each pointer ( such as speed for instance )

KDE couldn't possibly do this, because of the multi-platform aspect: it wouldn't be possible to enable this for Windows or Mac OS without some OS-specific code, and even then it would take a lot of knowledge of each OS to configure it.

I don't think we should ignore some of the best features of Linux just because other operating systems can't keep up.

Actually KDE4 tries to have a descent set of config tools because the distros have failed to make config tools that work and integrate well with KDE. If this isn't picked up by a KDE dev I doubt that any distro will come up with such a tool. |

I hope you are right. I need this for my volunteering with individuals who have near full-body paralysis as an access tool and no one seems to want to make it happen. I could get someone to hack one install for me but I need for many caregivers and volunteers to be able to do this with little technical background. I was hoping that because KDE is really right on the cutting edge of innovation that someone would pick it up. Multi-touch for the general population is also long overdue on typical desktops/laptops so it would be great if KDE could give it a push. |

It isn't just a matter of configuring it, though, there needs to be proper support as well. For instance being able to resize windows in two dimensions simultaneously, being able to drag and drop two files simultaneously, if you drag one window off the edge of the screen while dragging another they should both move to the next screen, etc.
