Oh. I didn't get it the first time (since it just seemed like a double click to me), but you're right, it's indeed different. As an option it would be good.

This is definitely not already implemented. I would personally not use it, but I can definitely see it being a very useful middle road between double-click and single-click schemes. It would still allow double-clicking to open non-selected items, but making people double-click to open selected items does seem illogical.
