This idea is for anything that uses tabs, such as konqueror, dolphin, konsole, etc. The idea is that when you switch tabs, you get an effect similar to "slide" effect for desktops or the containment switching in Amarok 2.0, where the contents of one tab slide to the left and the contents of the next tab slide into its place, sort of like the tabs are all laid out on a scroll and you are winding the scroll in a certain direction. So if you click a tab to the right, the contents of the current tab scroll to the left off the window while the contents of the tab to the right scroll to the left onto the window.
Now I am not sure if skipping tabs (like going three tabs to the right) should go directly to the tab to the right or go through all in the tabs in-between. That may depend on the performance cost and may be user-configurable Another, higher-cost (and lower-priority) effect could make it like the tabs were pages of a book, with pages lifting up off the window or down onto the window (depending on which direction you are going and your language direction). So imagine it as though it was a book, with on half of the book flat on the page and the other half sticking straight up at you (but invisible). These could also be used in a program like Gwenview for browsing full-size photos. I understand that programs that use tabs do not share a single set of code to handle tabs, and that this would have to be implemented on a per-program basis. But it would work just as well for any program with tabs (although the performance penalty would certainly vary depending on the program). I think something like konsole would probably have much less of a problem with this since it is much less graphics-intensive than, say, Okular.
Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

This sure would be nice !
It should go directly to the selected tab : imagine you get caught on Youporn and didn't close the tab, you wouldn't want people to get the page for a second ? Bespin already offer that kind of effect (a fade effect). In fact, I think that Oxygen should make this slide effect and maybe also a fade effect avalaible (but make it an option, to the good choice of the user). |

what i want to see is a standard look and feel of tabs, if you notice, tabs in konsole, dolphin and konqueror, they look and act differently, i wish to have a google chrome-like tab bars, that would be great!

Right Tanamo.
But we need to create a new topic for that idea. Indeed I also would like to see a single comportement for tabs (it would be more intuitive). And the Google Chrome model is a good one. |

Because it's the more intuitive tab system right now... and the cutest also.
It's the easiest way to move tabs in a window, to move tabs from a window to another, and to create a new window with the current tab. |

I wanted this to post but had no time.
But this idea rocks... |
