Make a program (maybe IDE) with ability to embed Vim editor.

I would like to see a sort of small IDE which has the ability to embed a text editor instead of providing a whole new one. For example: Vim. An example of an application that does this already is Pida, but that is GTK. Or if not a whole IDE, at least a sort of KDE Vim I can use instead of GVim.

Please don't say just use Vim, you don't need the graphical stuff, but I do enjoy 1) having a standalone program for programming tasks, 2) more advanced colourscheme and formatting available in graphical vim (eg: underline, more colours).

Even Kate with this embedding feature would be very very useful. I'm sorry I know about Vi-input mode but it's...not enough :(

First of all:
The KDE-apps does not provide whole new text-editors. They share KDE's advanced editor component.
Second of all:
KDE supports Terminal-emulation. So you can open vim in every application using the Terminal-emulator. (Kate, Konqueror, Yakuake, KDevelop3, KDevelop4,...)

I think open a terminal to launch vim to edit in Kate does not make sense~;-) There is a project named Yzis(http://www.yzis.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) which is integrated in Kate(KDE4.2.2). But it far away from perfect...

I was about to point out the above: the KWrite KPart already has Vi input mode capabilities.

As I said in my first post, "I'm sorry I know about Vi-input mode but it's...not enough" <-- It really lacks a huge amount of features the real Vim has.

"I think open a terminal to launch vim to edit in Kate does not make sense" <-- I agree.

I know that it uses the same KPart, but perhaps we can allow for the option not to embed that KPart, but instead our own editor?

Actually Yzis is the Kpart you are talking about AFAIK. And, lack many feature and far away form perfect(or far away from mature?)

hi, moult!

you are not the only one who miss the power of vim in KDE. :)
i'm the guy doing the vi input mode for kate. as you said, a lot of stuff is missing, and it will never replace vim. i do, however, want to make it possible for vim users to use a vim-like editor in kdevelop and other KDE programs.
out of curiosity -- can i ask what the main things you miss in kate's vi mode are?

there was a kpart embedding vim earlier, btw. it was called kvim and was done by the guys who are know doing the yzis project. you can read about why they gave up kvim here: http://www.yzis.org/wiki/index.php/History

In the KDE preferences there is an option to select the editor component, but there is always just Kate. (extended editor component)
I'm sure there is a way to add another one.

the thing is, the editor has to be an embeddable "kpart" for it to function in KDE programs. The only ones i know of is kate (used in kwrite, kate, kdevelop, etc.) and yzis (an external project).
