Currently when you move a window to a different desktop with compositing enabled, the window jumps to the other desktop, and then your view moves to the other desktop. It is not smooth at all.

Compiz has a nice effect that when you move a window to a new desktop, the window remained fixed in place on the screen while the desktop moves underneath of it. The result of the effect was that it looked like you are dragging the window from one screen to another, rather than it simply disappearing and reappearing somewhere else.

A slight, probably optional, enhancement to this effect would be if the window appeared to rise up off the screen slightly (by zooming in a little and making the shadow move a bit), then have the desktop slide, then have the window go back to normal. It would look like you had picked up the window, carried it to the other desktop, then put it back down again.
