Hi!
For ftp:// and file:// there should be the same behaviour for files not found.
Now this is the behaviour:
file:
-There is a dialog "file not found".
-The wrong URL in the adress bar remains (it could be corrected)
-The previously opened directory/file is still there
ftp:
-There is the same dialog
-The previously opened directory/file is left. You can see an empty KPart in Konqueror.

I think the file-behaviour is much better.
Maybe it could be selectable:
1. option: Show dialog and don't leave the old location
+ You can decide to use the folder-icons... instead of the adress bar
+ You can quickly change the URL
- You have to confirm a dialog
2. option: Don't show a dialog but a 404 message inside the KPart. (like http://)
+ You don't have to confirm a dialog
+ You can quickly change the URL
- You have to press "back" for the folder-view...
It should be the decision of the user (not me ;)).
