Add a visible button to access the search field
(preserving the possibility to jump into the search simply by starting typing) ----p

I think it would be better to have a permanently-visible search bar at either the top or bottom of the menu (instead of having it appear when you start typing). One that has focus by default so that when you start typing it automatically goes in that box.

I agree with TheBlackCat, having a permanently visible search bar is more obvious than a button and of course better than the un-discoverable implementation we have now.
