I believe many of us has one problem. When you use local address book (Akonadi, kcontacts etc based), it is difficult to access your contacts form anywhere else :(

Yes, it is possible to use google accounts or some other closed projects to do the job. But i don't think this is an answer.

So mockup (sorry if I added to many lines ;))

I know that there are some Akonadi Console in production, so why not to create a fully featured single sync API to synchronize your settings and PHP, RoR etc based independent web mail client to use. This could be as a squirrel mail etc plugins or a new separate project.

Why web based (PHP)?

  • Many companies has web hosting for their web sites, and PHP is most frequently available scripting language in (these) servers
  • These servers are accessible 24/7, so you could be able sync all your data anytime anywhere with one action, what can't be done by now
  • PHP scripts is easy to install.
  • This would be 100% independent solution and secure solution
  • [Many other important points here :)]

This should be ONE and KDE officially (gnome xfce etc are alco welcome) sponsored app soi could grew up till hi-end web based solution

This sounds like you want a PHP based groupware.
There are already several of those.

I am not sure which groupwares are currently fully supported, so my guess is that Kolab is the one with best support at the moment.

But again this doesn't mean that other solutions such as eGroupware won't work welll together with desktop software.
