I have request for a traffic widget for planing traveling with public transport. Currently there is none. So I though there might a chance to prevent cluttering and bring information together so that a general widget can be created using different online sources depending on where you live.
Therefore information needs to be collected and I hope KDE brainsstorm is usefull for this :-)
For Europe there one very good source for traffic information: hafas.de which is the company who provides the off/offline plattform for German Rail (Deutsche Bahn -> bahn.de. They also provide this for several other railway and bus companies in Europe. So the service of the Deutsche Bahn contains the schedules of nearly all public transport in Europe. Not allways the most actuall information, but very good and it is often easier to find your way in other countries then with the local web interface.
There are also mobile services available, which may be usefull for creating a widget. Here is a comparism of these services (Unfortunately in German)
http://www.bus-und-bahn-im-griff.de/han ... kunft.html

Some local transport companies also use EFA and there also some widgets for other OS, which may be an inspiration: http://www.efa-widgets.de/ (In general the hafas software is more reliable, but the data in EFA is sometimes more actual)

The other thing a traffic widget for public transport should accomplish is:
- monitoring if a certain train/bus/tram is late
- overview of trains a certain time a certain station (normal plan and real time)
->
http://www.bus-und-bahn-im-griff.de/ver ... index.html
and
http://mobilitaetsverbund.de/?id=10#95

Finanally the widget could also integrated
Car pooling:
http://www.mitfahrzentrale.de/ (German based, but it is available and present in different languages and countries)
http://www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de/ (also European wide presence)
http://www.raumobil.de/
http://www.drive2day.de:80

Now the information I provided is mostly about the German situation, even though it is very helpful, because it covers many other European countries to. In order to have a real international multi traffic widget there would be the need for others to give information about the interface/ data source their company uses. Be aware that most of this systems are not homemade, rather that a lot of companies use the same software like hafas, EFA or that of the French train company SCNF:
http://www.tgv-europe.de/de/home/ which seems also to be used by the belgian train Company, Thalys, Eurostar and RENFE (Spain).

So if if you find this idea good, please provide information and thought what this widget should be able to do.
