i'm not a developer or a technical.
i have an idea to do of konqueror a factotum, i like to have more application in a single tool (like the swiss knife) so why not have kopete, kmail and other pim integrated in konqueror? i asked myself....
metabar with a lateral panel can use to turn between contacts, amarok controls, power managment, integrated some utility to little edit of pics or to edit tag.
The tabs can be associated at different process, in a tab i can have chat, in other file manager, in other web brosing, in other lyric of the music played in amarok, in other the torrent download progress and so on. konqueror to do all kde app , in a window that i can minimize or make in system tray. one thing to have more order in desktop and less windows open.

I think the KDE3 version of Amarok had something like this, and I think there are plans to reimplement it in KDE4.

konqueror in kde3 had some of these function, today konqueror has lost his popularity. new light webb broser in qt4 is coming and without extension like firefox i think always less peolpe will use it. konqueror in kde3 is a very very good, and complete filemanager now is a lame. I love kde3, but really don't like kde4 until it is puor of kill apps and without a flexible configuration. if i want a simply desktop i use gnome, but i want a high customizable desktop full of kill apps that i can i use as i want.
definetly kde4 seems to me like windows.

kmail and kopete - perhaps email can be just added as protocol to kopete

and konqueror - whats the link ? why integrate them ?

only a question of order in desktop, if it's possible to do more things in a window i think is better. but i think so, maybe someone think that have mail, web browser, file manager, chat client, music player everyone in his window is better. but a easy file manager already there is: dolphin. the linux distros put always firefox as web browser so konqueror has no "identity",it is a plus.
i love konqueror, the old stile konqueror (3.5.10), and i think that konqueror must be the heart of kde. it should be a irreplaceable application.
