I think the inside of the transparent cube effect in Kwin is wasted space that could be put to good use. One idea is to put non-interactive plasma widgets in there. There are three ways I thought of to do this.
One is to have a cube inside the cube, with one side of the interior cube facing each desktop. You could either have a single containment shared by all sides or a separate containment for each side. The second is similar, but has a sphere with widgets on it. This would require probably one large containment for the entire sphere, and it could probably be set to be fixed in place or rotate slowly. The final one is to just have the widgets floating. This would probably be implemented as a single completely transparent containment that always faces the user, but it could also be set up as individual applets being on their own, self-sized containments that could be moved and rotated freely in three dimensions (which would obviously comes with a performance penalty).

I think we should show activity and desktops around it on cube effect.
Idea is simple. On Cube Effect user will seen activity on each side of cube and transparent desktops(Windows) at top of it. There will be some matters, like number of desktops and activity can be different.

Adding to what Lucas said, in my install there are:
26 system monitor widgets (including battery and network monitors) 8 clock widgets 6 weather forecast widgets 5 mail indicator widgets 4 download monitor widgets 4 rss/news/microblogging widgets 4 Moon phase indicator widgets 4 stock indicator widgets 4 calendar widgets 3 picture display widgets 2 random fact/quote generator widgets A globe widget A fortune generator widget A comic strip widget A song lyrics display widget A birthday reminder widget A file change watcher widget And a game of life widget That's well over 70 widgets, all of which are useful in non-interactive mode. Some can be interacted with, others can't, but none of those functions are essential to it being a useful widget. I know there are many others, especially if you include google gadgets and apple widgets (there are a few google gadgets in that list).

Just one thing about activities in top and bottom - Users with 2 monitors would have 4 in top and 4 in bottom, since 1 wall consists of 2 activities. Unless we use some sort of 2x zooming.
Anyway, This could be done in more generic way - adding "roles" to activities. Lets say regular (as it is now) activities are has "Regular" role, Second "Dashboard" (if you want different layout than regular), "screensaver", "cube" like in this idea. So when you loop over activities you will see only "Regular" ones, since you might not be interested into lets say screensaver one. But you could access all of them via ZUI |

The problem is, how you would go about interacting with them? Or rather, how would you go about interacting with them and still being able to rotate the cube freely? Remember that if you want to interact with them, you have the desktop and dashboard to put interactive widgets on, as well as however many activities you might want. Making the desktop cube too complicated would, in my opinion, be counterproductive when you already essentially have unlimited space for interactive widgets elsewhere.
