Plasmoids should be able to maximise. That is the plasmoids should be able to fill the whole screen except the place of panels(same way as that of a window). But unlike the maximisation of a window, in which the maximised window will come above all other windows, the maximised plasmoid should stay below all other plasmoids . The main advantage of this is that, we can make our desktop whatever we wish . For example, consider the maximised 'folder view' . It will become the desktop of vista , in which desktop itself is a folder and can also have the widgets . If notes is maximised, we will get a desktop in which we can write any thing but at the same time can have widgets too. If there is a tablet pc write pad plasmoid , and it is maximised, we can write with pen on the desktop. If we want to create a new type of desktop, all we need is to create a plasmoid and maximise it. There should have a button ,to maximise, which is to be appeared when mouse hover over it.

Not too complicated?

Why not to create a new activity + some sort of force z-index for other plasmoids to keep them in top

Added tag.

I'd actually prefer something similar to what we already have - toolbox --> appearance settings --> Desktop Activity Type: "Desktop", "Folder View", (more default desktop types), and, "Other..." which would bring up a list of all installed plasmoids. This wouldn't work for some, but it would allow for a, "World Clock" background...

This idea is also good . But fundamentally both are same

Well, IMHO fullscreen plasmoids should be interesting for:
- kdm itself may be a good example
- screensaver (here we are again)
- a musicbox or a video player for a discotheque
....

Hmm, not bad. IIRC some dvd players allow you to switch from standar mode to small or fullscreen mode, so the idea is very similar. You may need to work with some stuff while having it in normal mode (for example in the musicbox) and when you are finally ready you can switch to fullscreen mode to show it in a.. 100'' screen.

So, maybe this could be interesting :)
