I was thinking that it'd be nice to use our API to come up with some new KDE widget. For the start I have a picture in my head of notification cloud showing up every time new tender is posted on the website.
We're very happy to extend present API in any directions and very excited to work with developers. API link (UK) - http://www.tenderwarehouse.co.uk/help/apis/v1/search_tenders.html API link (US) - http://www.tenderwarehouse.com/help/apis/v1/search_tenders.html What do you think? |

Perhaps there might be more discussion and/or votes if you explained exactly what tenderhouse is and why people might be interested in having it in plasma.

OK... "TenderWarehouse is a tool that allows customers to contact contractors with offers of work. By posting a job of work, called a "Tender", on the website, customers can sit back and wait for contractors to make contact. Contractors make an offer for the work being offered via the website. As more than one contractor may wish to carry out the work, there may be several bids for the Tender. It is then up to the customer to choose which bid they prefer." There isn't much activity on the websites at the moment but you can get a picture of how it works from this screen shoots or by visiting expired tenders. For start I was thinking of having some sort of notification widget that would notify a user when a new tender is posted on the website.. tho any suggestions about how to better integrate TW with KDE are welcome. As I said before, we'll extend/modify present API to suit new ideas. |

This sort of thing is probably better for a third-party widget rather than one included with KDE. You could easily make your own widget and provide it on kde-look.org for people who want it. I think it is just too narrow of a use-case to be included with the default KDE packages.

you are probably right... I wasn't aware brainstorm forum is only default packages related.. thought it was everything KDE.

It does sound potentially useful, though, so don't be discouraged.

thanks! I'm not discouraged.. just being careful as I don't want to push something that isn't relevant to the forum. |

I appreciate your concern. There is no obvious rule stating that there shouldn't be ideas for third-party applications, so you cannot be blamed for posting it, but the consensus is that this should only be for applications officially hosted by KDE. That being said, it is not really my decision regarding what is and is not chosen to be hosted, the KDE devs decide that, so if there is sufficient interest from the community it may still happen.

Quick update about what's going with the TW project...
Both US & UK version of TenderWarehouse has been put on hold until we decided on a final structure of the __mother__ platform. That said, in the mean time, we've rolled out a moto branch of the site: http://www.mototenders.com/ I'm working on API for this service, and I hope it to be ready in about a week or two. It'll be much more open that the previous one, i.e. it'll include posting as well as searching new tenders. Yet again I'd like to invite anyone who would be interested in developing widget, for this type of service for KDE, to contact me. |
