I think the breadcrumb-style navigation has a place in konqueror. It wouldn't replace the existing text-based address bar. Instead, if you hover over the slash character in the address it turns into a button. For file browsing this button, as the arrow button in Dolphin, brings up a list of sub-folders at that level. Unlike Dolphin, it would also list the folder itself, allowing you to avoid having to use the "up" button. Similarly, in web page mode clicking that button would essentially erase everything after the slash and then load that url, once again allowing you to avoid having to use the up button.
