[KDE] Global defaults reset

Sun Jun 21, 2009 5:05 pm
I have seen a few new users who are not used to KDE screwing up their profile and in some ways because they have a lack of general linux knowledge.. the screwed desktop means some will give up with linux.

I have been there myself when either widgets crash or overlap in nasty ways and becomes really hard to deal with. I have created new users in past to take their defaults to get around messed up desktop.

Anyhow I though I put together a few lines that restores the desktop to default installed desktop with widgets as they were on day 1. It will still restore any open sessions you had open from last log in -

One of possible, but not very recommended ways is simply to delete .kde4 folder. Than KDE recreates it with defaults.

But the best solution is a backup tool, that is not very finished :(

I think it would be better if you moved the script part to the Tutorials & Tips section and just keep the main idea here, with a link to the tutorial thread.

I'm sure this will be useful to many users. If you split the thread it's likely that more people will find the script, while keeping this thread in Brainstorm short and fast to read. :)
