What's the problem?

More then once have I come across an email I don't want to keep, nor do I want to delete it. GMail provides an archive function.

So it does...but what about users who don't use GMail?

Provide the same function locally :). If it's a Gmail account, get the Gmail server to archive the email in question. Otherwise, archive locally and make it search-able.

If you use your Gmail account on KMail you just need to move the message to the appropriate folder, don't you?

I guess it works the same way if you use another mail account.

Hmmm. I'm not exactly sure what the archive function in gmail does. Could you explain it please?

Kmail has already a very useful "expire" feature that can be used to automatically file old messages. I use it, I like it. Periodically I create a new folder to expire things to. That way I can even do spring cleaning if I need to... easily.

Is google archive similar?

Well, if such a feature exists, then could it be made more accessible? (Like placing a 'Archive' or 'Store' button on the main interface?)

Gmail's 'archive' hides the mail, so it can only be retrived by searching for it (or it's contents)

Are you sure?

As far as I understand, any message that comes to you gmail gets an "inbox" label and is shown in inbox (inbox is nothing more than a predefined search (label:inbox) with custom style and button in main menu). One you click on "Archive" button "inbox" label is removed.

All mail is accessible in "all mail" folder, no matter it is archived, inbox or with label "Super Mambo" :)

I want labels in kmail :(
