Hi,
A feature i really miss in amarok is the ability to meningfully use multiple values in a tag field. For example the genre field may include both the values 'rock' and 'indie'. The desired behaviour would be for these genres to be treated independently from each other. This would manifest itself in the track showing up in the genre browser twice, under 'rock' and 'indie'. Currently there is only one entry in 'rock indie'. This would also greatly improve features like biases in dynamic playlists. I think this is already supported in mp3 (id3v2.something) tags, don't know about other containers.

I've googled this for a little while and there have apparently been some discussions about this in 2004/2005 and 2007. I'm now wondering if this is on anybodys roadmap or if someone is actually working on this. If this is impossible to implement from a technical perspective (database design) could someone who knows about this stuff explain it to me? I guess it would also be useful for other users searching for the info and could be added to user/techbase or the amarok wiki.

[Amarok] Multiple tag / genre support

Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:22 am
It would be great if Amarok could read, write and exploit all of at least the most relevant (standard) tag fields as defined in the Vorbis and ID3v2 specifications. It always annoyed me that Amarok couldn't properly display if a song has a second artist for example.
