When using a small number of desktops (say, 2), it would be easier and faster to have a [left/right] buttons in the titlebar to quickly move the window to the desktop left/right to the current one.

Use case: Having a desktop for general activity and another for studies, and using Firefox for both activities, I switch Firefox window between the desktops several times during the day, each time going through the menu procedure.

I use a screenedge to activate present desktops, and then from that I can easily drag and drop windows to any desktop. Does that work for you?

@Ioannis: I'm quite a noob. I don't know the shortcuts :| Could you tell me where to find these?

@Moult: You're right. I haven't thought of that. But I think that's working only when Desktop Effects are enabled. When trying to preserve power by disabling Desktop Effects (or compositing), will it work?

I was thinking of something simple, that would be apparent the first time a user sees a KDE desktop.

Something that would not require prior knowledge.

KRunner is you friend (what you get with Alt+F2 by default). Type "shortcuts" and you'll get the 'Global Keyboard Shortcuts' option. There you can select 'KWin' and look for the 'Window One Desktop...' actions. Not sure if it's the default, but I have Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Down/Left/Right/UP to navigate windows around desktops.

There is an argument about 'discover-ability' for first-time users, but this is not an essential feature to justify cluttering the desktop.

System settings -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Global Keyboard Shortcuts -> KWin
There are quite a few - window to next desktop, window to previous desktop, window one desktop to the right/left, window to desktop 1/2/3/etc. By default they don't have shortcuts assigned to them but you can choose one yourself.

Also, I don't think such a button is needed especially on a prominent place such as a title bar - those are reserved for buttons which are meant to be used very frequently - close, maximise, miminise. I think adding such buttons would actually serve to confuse the user, also because the default desktop number is probably 4, not 2.

What else I'm wondering is if this could be implemented under a window decoration theme - if so then this could be kept as a side and not part of the official oxygen/nitrogen package.

Thanks :) I just figured it is somewhat similar in function to the "On all desktops" button.
I think another argument against the exclusivity of keyboard shortcuts is that sometimes you don't have a keyboard - i.e. touchscreen or tablets.
I like the window decoration theme idea though. Probably better to have it optional.
