[Folderview] Smart Folder

Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:36 am
A smart or virtual folder ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_folder ) would be very cool feature in the Folderview plasmoid. It'd be very easy to access recently used files, or movies or any kind of certain types of files right from the desktop.

Virtual folders are being implemented using strigi/nepomuk, but aren't ready yet. Once they are Folderview, which already supports kio slaves, should support it.

The folder view already supports nepomuk integration. Only thing is that it is too hard to use, is choosing tags, ratings and mimetypes.

Just place the folder view to show nepomuksearch://tag:wanted_tag and tag files with "wanted_tag" tag and folder view shows them. Then add a filter settings and you get wanted files only to be shown.

I use that a lot on these days and what I really miss, is the automatic tagging or easier tagging example when downloading files with KGet, user could just click file and add wanted tags. (this is added already?). Automatic tagging by mimetype, like videos, music, photos, pictures and then filtering by those.
