I already like system try a lot, but I'm starting to see that he is starting to display too much information.
Like for instance when you open audiocd:/ you get "Discovering File audiocd:..." Who needs such info? I personally don't. My idea is to start using some sort of priority rating/grouping for each message and get ability to choose behaviors for each of them. So behaviors could be: * Do nothing * Do not popup - add to the list, but don't popup e.g. for very unimportant tasks like "Discovering..." * Hide automatically after (time to display) - e.g. for finished to download tasks, playing next song in amarok * Do not hide automatically - For important tasks like security updates of missed call from close frind Priority rating/grouping could be: * Local file transfers - e.g for audiocd:/ zip:/ * Remote file transfers - e.g for ftp:/ * Routine system messages - e.g hardware connected, regular updates * Important system messages - e.g Security updates * Personal information - e.g. notifications for new messages, rss updates * Important personal information - e.g. new messages form "important groups (1) * Other (1) Not all person you comunicate with is important to you in the same level. Like messages form my best fiend I'd always would like to get as soon as possible, but messages form class group is not so important. So IM could tag those notifications by different "rating" depending on user settings (if groups are marked as important) Going further it could be possible to change display style: as it is now, amarok like OSD, rain drops etc. Or regexp based custom rules would be cool too What do you think? |

Another and more customizable way for system tray events could be using classes like in html+css

@Lukas: Plasma is designed to provide a coherent experience, so is quite unlikely to allow styling other than that determined by the theme author ( even then, it only includes the images and colours used )
