Aside from running programs (and deciding I don't need it somehow) I use it to write something short and copy it into clipboard for future use without opening an editor. That may be weird, yeah

i like the "hit Esc to clear" proposal. is quite convenient, it is also used in Qt Creator btw (kinda).

So if I might summarise as I see it so far... WRT krunner
1. typing should return focus to the entry always 2. esc should clear the current entry or close krunner if the entry is empty 3. krunner should report the number of hits I think the first 2 are still pretty closely related and it might be just too pedantic to separate them. The third is clearly a separate idea, it was not included in the first post and probably shold be dropped from further dicscussion in this thread.
