In Amarok 2.1, users can change the layout of their playlist using the playlist layout editor. Currently there are three parts. First is the header, which is at the beginning of each album. Within each album there is the body, with one instance of the body for each song in the album. There is also the single, which is for albums with only one song. This one does not have a header.
The limitation in the current implementations is that the header is always at the top of the album. This is fairly limited and is not necessarily how everyone wants it. My idea is that within the header layout tab there is a "body" element. Unlike the other elements it does not appear in the list at the top, it appears there from the very start and cannot be removed. However, it can be moved around just like any other element. This can lead to some very interesting and, in my opinion, potentially desirable layouts. For example, you can set it up so the album information is in strip to the left or right of the songs in the album. You could also have the header below the songs. You could also use more complicated layouts. For instance you could be the album title and artist above the body and put the album cover, year, genre, bitrate, and other information to the left or right. Or you could have the album cover, artist, and album title above the body and the song count and total album play time below. It would allow for much more flexibility and could let people make some very neat looking playlist layouts.
