Sometimes when you unmount a device, the process takes a time and the device notifier plasmoid continues to display the emblem mounted. Don't you think that is cool to see during the process of unmounting an animated gif emblem instead?

I have created an animated gif that shows my idea:

Yep, it would be helpfull indeed. Maybe it could hold me when I try to click again and again so the device unmount faster.

Complete agree with you! For example a message : " You can unplug your device properly"

It already provides some feedback in the form of the icon becoming a "tick" although this is very subtle.

So subtle I haven't seen it yet :-) Where is this 'tick'?

the tick (actually a check mark) momentarily replaces the devices manager icon on the taskbar

I can't say I'm impressed with that as a design. You click the umount, either in dolphin or in the device manager, but unless your eyes move very quickly to the panel you will not see the tick. I don't know how long this has been 'working', but, as I said, I'd never seen it. I have now you've pointed me to it, but I'll not subject my eyes to that quick movement as a normal thing. The feedback needs to be where the action has just taken place.

I agree with that, although I have gotten used to seeing the "tick" for quite some time now... perhaps a notification saying "Device xyz can be removed safely" would be more effective.

Windows XP displayed a notification which was changed in Vista to a popup window. What does MacOS display?

KDE4 displays a checkmark. I prefer the notification.

I think the idea is proposing to show this animated icon after *while* the device is being unmounted, ie, between clicking unmount icon and before the tick appears.

Nevertheless, +1 o)

in kde 4.4 there will be a busywidget, the one you see for example when the comic plasmoid fetches the data, drawn over the mount/unmount if the process takes some time.

Does that satisfy the OP? If so we can mark this as "done".
