Currently in Amarok the playlist expands or shrinks horizontally to fit the space provided for it. This is good for the Amarok 2-style playlists. However, with the playlist layout editor it is possible to at least approximate the amarok 1-style playlist. However, it is not possible to reproduce the horizontal scrolling behavior, which means all of your columns must squish into the often narrow playlist area. A possible solution would be to have two modes for playlists, defined in the playlist layout editor. The first mode is what Amarok 2 has now, the playlist elements are defined in terms of percentage of the playlist area width and so change size as the playlist area changes size. The second is a fixed-width mode, where playlist elements are defined in terms of the number of characters they contain, or some other consistent measure. If the elements are too big to fit in the playlist area, then a horizontal scroll bar appears allowing you to view others parts of the playlist.

I'd prefer min-width property.

And as alternative layout I would like to get table based one, so I could sort my playlist by rating length etc. Quite well done implementation is in kmail (and even here it is not new layout, but rather same layout but this column titles in the top :))
